"Why is what separates us from them - you from me. Why is the only real source of power, without it you are powerless."
As you might have guessed, why will be the focus here; specifically why do you want to get fit? This may seem like a stupid question - especially on a fitness site - but it is paramount to have a true understanding of your motivations for starting or refocusing on an aspect of your life to ensure you create deep, personal motivation for accomplishing what you set out to do and eliminate any shallow intentions or superfluous influences.
As a personal trainer, people come to me for personalized information on how to change their health and fitness. Many have lofty goals, often with unrealistic expectations and shallow motivators such as; to "get a killer six pack", to "build better biceps for the the gun show", or "tone my tummy to look good in a bikini this summer."
Without diving too far into the psychology of it - all of these goals are very superficial, and when challenges arise, they won't hold much weight when you have to find a way to prioritize your personal life with your new fitness goals.
More often than not, I know whether a client will reach their goals before I even see them move in the gym based on what they tell me as their "why".
You need to dig deeper and find a more powerful reason for changing your lifestyle. Just looking objectively at the example of reasons given above; they show a general need for social acceptance. Why would improving your social live be important? Is your social life generally lacking? Would a better physique improve your confidence in yourself allowing you to interact better with people in general or allow you to be more comfortable around men/women in order to find a relationship?
Though even those reasons are not digging all that deep, they give you an example of the thought process you need to have if you really want to achieve solid change within your life - fitness or otherwise.
If you have a goal of getting fit to be more confident in social situations so that you can improve your business life, I guarantee that you will be more committed to your goal than if it is just to look good in a bikini/board shorts.

The Underlying Factors are Ultimately What Determines Your Levels of Success - Both Internally and Externally.
So, now I turn the question to you - Why do you want to improve your health and fitness? Really take some time to think about it and sift through the superficial motivations to get to the deeper ones. Really break it down as far as you can, because as I mentioned before - the more powerful your why, the more important making this particular change becomes to you, which greatly improves your likelihood of achieving your goals.
